Languages at Nursery school

Mother Tongue is the first one children learn. It is a central element of their growing process, because it ties them to their family, their culture, and to a community.

Young children can learn several languages simultaneously, but for their language skills to be built on solid basis, they must have a mother tongue they are proud of and are fluent in.

In Small Section of Nursery school, learning is essentially based on French language. For Thai speaking children, a Thai language support is proposed. For all children, an hour of discovery of the Thai language called “language bath” is offered every week.

From Medium Section of Nursery school, LFIB offers foreign languages teachings (French, Thai, English)

On September, children are evaluated and a summary of language skills is set. The implementation of personalized and adapted language programs, allows meeting everyone’s need.

Throughout school year, adjustments are made, taking into account the children’s language skills improvement. The class teacher and the Cycle Board make the decision.

As of Thai speaking pupils, the Thai mother tongue enhancement will be a guarantee of success, before beginning the learning of a 3rd modern language, starting CP.

The chosen approach for Thai and English teaching is based on an action-oriented and communicative pedagogy. The studied themes are linked to class projects.

The language taught from the Medium Section is continued in the Grande Section. A change of group remains possible only from reinforced French to other language classes.

All pupils discover the other language during the weekly “language bath”: pupils learning Thai participate in the English language bath and pupils learning English benefit from the Thai language bath.

Lastly, for pupils in Grande Section whose French skills need to be strengthened, a French as a Second Language (Flsco) group is offered.
